Chicago Hip-Hop installation (throughout July 2010) of Chicago Hip-Hop History, Arts, Music, and Culture, in celebration of Chicago Hip-Hop Heritage Month.
Dates: Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays in July, 2010
Time:Noon-6pm Location: Elastic Arts, 2830 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago Mission: ~ Create a month long instillation of Chicago created hip-hop music, art, multimedia, memorabilia, etc ~Set up and maintain video archiving stations for The Chicago Hip-Hop Archive; And accept Chicago Hip-Hop Archive submissions; ~Host discussion forums, showcases, and interviews with local artists, educators, pioneers, and professionals ~Conduct hands on hip-hop youth empowerment workshops.
Objectives: ~To research, collect, and archive data, historical information and facts pertinent to Chicago Hip-Hop, including contributions to music, arts, politics, education, economics and community development. ~To demonstrate and encourage the organic practices of hip-hop, and show how hip-hop can be used to affect public policy, social change, and stimulate youth empowerment. ~To honor and celebrate some of those individuals and organizations who have committed themselves and their work to the preservation of Chicago’s rich hip-hop culture. ~To teach the proper practices of hip-hop, and dispel the myths and public misconception and misinterpretations that hip-hop arts & culture is akin to mass marketed pop, misogyny, and violence. ~To serve as the honorary hub of the 8th Annual observance of Chicago Hip-Hop Heritage Month.
