WEEKLY SCHEDULE: Week 1 – July 3 – Hip-Hop 101: What is hip-hop? History, artists, ideology, aesthetics, local connections, influences, etc.
Week 2 – July 10 – Careers In Hip-Hop: Explore careers in hip-hop beyond the familiar roles of rapper and producer. Learn about the roles of accountants, agents, marketing & public relations professionals, lawyers, engineers, choreographers, sound and lighting, event management, etc.
Week 3 – July 17 – Hip-Hop for Social Change: How to use hip-hop to influence and affect progressive social change. This session focuses on hip-hop and community, politics, environment, and technology.
Week 4 – July 31 – The Future: Individual goal setting sessions. Each student, along with a mentor/advisor completes a personal action plan for his or her own progressive use and practice of hip-hop as a tool for empowerment.
